Exploring McKay’s Bookstore and Record Store in Nashville, TN

McKay’s is my favorite place to go for books around Nashville, Tennessee. Whatever you’re looking for you’re sure to find something on their shelves to satisfy every literary craving. And there are so. many. shelves.

I first discovered McKay’s in Knoxville, Tennessee when I was at the University of Tennessee – Knoxville. Luckily, when I moved back to the Nashville area in 2007 the Nashville location opened.

There are rows upon rows of books, DVDs, video games, and more—some as low as five cents. My first stop is always to the bargain book section. Then, I look through the books on writing.

While I love browsing the inside, I especially love the bins in the front of the store full of free books. I’ve found some real gems in there. Usually, I’ll look through them on the way in and again on the way out—you never know what might be thrown in there.

If you aren’t comfortable around large crowds, I’d steer clear of coming on the weekends. It’s always really busy. I went in one time and the line to check out was clear to the back of the store. That being said, if you walk in and the line is a little long I won’t worry too much about it—they are pretty fact as checking people out.

If you find yourself in Nashville and have a passion for literature, be sure to carve out some time to explore the wonders of McKay’s Bookstore.
